An "adult" version of this dish can be made by substituting a sweet sherry in place of the fruit juice. A trifle made in this manner is referred to as being "high church."
1 package vanilla cake mix
1 4.6 ounce package of vanilla pudding
1 cup preserves (blackberry or plum works great)
1 cup juice (orange juice or any juice which complements your preserves)
1 16 ounce container cool whip
optional: fresh fruit, nuts.
1. Make the vanilla cake according to the directions on the package. Allow the cake to cool completely. Cut into 1 inch squares. Then slice each square in half and cover with the preserves.
2. Place the cake square in a tupperware container and pour 1 cup orange juice or favorite juice over the cake pieces and let set for about an hour.
3. Cook the vanilla pudding according to the directions, BUT with 1 less cup of milk.
4. When pudding is cooked, add the container of Cool Whip and whisk until smooth.
5. Alternating all ingredients, assemble your trifle with your own flair in either a trifle bowl or beautiful deep bowl!
