chocolate banana custard pie
2 cups half and half
1/3 cup sugar
5 ounces bittersweet chocolate, cut into pieces
4 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3 ripe bananas
1 store bought refrigerated pie shell


preparation

for the custard cream:

1. Combine the half and half and sugar in a saucepan. Slightly whisk only to mix.

2. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Remove from heat and whisk in the chocolate until melted and smooth.

3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs with the spices. Then gently stir in chocolate mixture - only until mixed. Try not to make a lot of foam!

4. Skim any foam off from surface

5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place pie shell in 9 inch pie tin and prebake according to the directions. Allow to cool before proceeding.

6. Slice the bananas into the pie shell then top with the chocolate custard cream.

7. Bake for about 45 minutes or until the center of custard has just set. Cool on a pie rack and serve alone or with whipped cream.
